Read and discuss the following roles we can play when working in a group:
ENCOURAGER: Tells the group positive things and keeps energy going well.
ORGANIZER: Helps group stay on task and time; manages materials.
PEACE KEEPER: Helps to solve problems, make decisions, and understand one another.
IDEA PERSON: Gives and seeks helpful ideas.
HELPER: Is supportive and friendly, willing to listen and help others.
JOKER: Claims attention by interrupting, distracting others, and trying to be funny.
BOSS: Takes charge. Knows it all. Tells people what and how to do things. Doesn't listen well.
SITTER: Doesn't participate. Sits on the side. Always claims the right to pass. Doesn't help others.
PUT-DOWNER: Ridicules others and their ideas.
TALKER: Goes on and on talking. Ignores others also waning time.

Now, answer the following questions about your name. Interview your parents and guardians if you do not know all the answers!
1. Why did your parents choose your name?
2. What nicknames do you have, and how did you get them?
3. Do you like your name? Why or why not?
4. If you could choose another name, what would it be?
Select something from your wallet, purse, bedroom, desk, or backpack. It must be special to you and symbolic. Share with your friends. What makes your item special to you? Was it hard to select an item? What could that item say about you?
Extension: Think of different periods in history. What might someone from another time period choose to carry with them?
This challenge will help your listening and speaking skills, and promote creativity! First, get your creative juices flowing by reading ART'S SUPPLIES on EPIC BOOKS .
Activity: Begin part of a story. Say only a sentence or two. Next, your partner needs to continue the story. Keep going back and forth and see where the story goes!

Read about setting goals with this book on EPIC BOOKS by Suzanne Bushman. What would you like to accomplish before the end of this school year? Think of one new goal. Write and draw about it on a square piece of paper. Have your family members make one too and tie them together.
Start by reading the story: Nico Draws a Feeling on EPIC BOOKS. Next, paint a picture using the colours that represent how you are feeling. How did you know what colours to use? Did you discover anything new about yourself? Share your picture with me or others to see if we can guess your feeling!
TRIBES CHALLENGE: GIVING COMPLIMENTS
Select someone in your home to give a compliment to. Give them a compliment every day for this entire week. At the end of the week, think about how it made you feel. How did it make the other person feel? What challenges did you have? Email me your answers that I can share on this website!
Here are a few examples of compliments:
-You have a great sense of humour.
-You take care of me really well.
-I notice how kind you are.
